Kailua family dental is now kailua town dental blog

We are excited to share a new chapter for our practice. Kailua Family Dental is now Kailua Town Dental, a name that better reflects who we are, where we are rooted, and the kind of dental practice we are building for the Windward Oahu community.

Although our name has changed, our commitment to our patients remains the same. Under the ownership of Dr. Leon A. Johnson, DDS, we continue to provide comprehensive, personalized dental care from our office at 407 Uluniu St., Suite 114, in the heart of Kailua. Existing patients can continue seeing the same familiar doctor they have come to know, while new patients can expect modern dentistry delivered in a welcoming, local setting.

A New Name for a New Chapter in Kailua

Dr. Johnson acquired the practice in January 2025 and celebrated his first anniversary of ownership on January 2, 2026. Rebranding from Kailua Family Dental to Kailua Town Dental is a natural next step as we continue to grow and strengthen our connection to the community.

The new name reflects our goal of being a dental home for people throughout Kailua and the surrounding Windward side of Oahu. We want our practice to feel like part of the town we serve, not simply a place patients visit when they need dental treatment.

For our existing patients, the transition is straightforward. The name of the practice has changed, but the personal care, familiar doctor, and commitment to quality remain. We are continuing to build on the foundation of an established Kailua dental practice while bringing our own vision for modern, comprehensive dentistry to the community.

Meet Dr. Leon Johnson

Dr. Leon Johnson brings a broad educational and clinical background to Kailua Town Dental.

He grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and earned his bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of the Pacific. He later completed graduate-level coursework in physiology at San Francisco State University before earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from New York University in 2015.

After dental school, Dr. Johnson completed a general practice residency at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx. During his residency, he gained experience caring for medically complex patients and managing a wide range of dental needs.

In 2016, Dr. Johnson moved to Hawaii and began practicing dentistry on Lanai and Maui. He later settled in Kailua, where he now lives with his family.

As Dr. Johnson celebrates 10 years of practicing dentistry in Hawaii, his focus remains on combining advanced clinical care with the personal relationships that make a local dental practice special. We believe patients should feel comfortable asking questions, understanding their options, and knowing who will be providing their care.

Bringing Modern Dental Care to Windward Oahu

One of our priorities at Kailua Town Dental is making comprehensive care more convenient for our patients. Rather than routinely referring patients elsewhere for many procedures, we are equipped to provide a wide variety of treatments in our Kailua office.

Dr. Johnson has continued to expand his clinical expertise throughout his career, with a particular focus on dental implant placement and restoration, oral surgery, and same-day crown technology.

Advanced technology also plays an important role in the way we plan and deliver care. For example, 3D imaging can help us carefully evaluate dental implant placement and other procedures. Guided implant techniques allow us to plan treatment with precision based on a patient's individual anatomy.

Same-day crown technology can also make restorative treatment more convenient. CAD/CAM technology allows certain crowns to be designed and created without requiring the traditional process of wearing a temporary crown while waiting for a restoration to return from a dental laboratory.

Our goal is not to use technology simply because it is new. We use modern tools when they can help us provide efficient, precise, and comfortable care for our patients.

Comprehensive Dental Services Under One Roof

Every patient's dental needs are different. Some people come to us for preventive care and routine checkups, while others may need restorative treatment, cosmetic improvements, oral surgery, or a more complex treatment plan.

At Kailua Town Dental, our comprehensive range of services includes:

  • General and preventive dentistry
  • Cosmetic dentistry, including veneers, whitening, and smile makeovers
  • Dental implants, including full-arch treatment and 3D guided placement
  • Full mouth reconstruction
  • Oral surgery
  • Same-day crowns using CAD/CAM technology
  • SureSmile clear aligners
  • Restorative dentistry
  • Root canal treatment
  • Dental crowns and bridges
  • Dentures
  • Periodontal treatment
  • Emergency dentistry

Offering a wide range of services allows us to look at a patient's oral health as a whole. When several treatments are needed, we can develop a coordinated plan designed around the patient's priorities, comfort, and long-term dental health.

This approach can be especially helpful for patients who need extensive restorative care or full mouth reconstruction. Rather than focusing on one tooth at a time without considering the larger picture, we can evaluate function, appearance, existing dental work, missing teeth, and overall oral health when developing a treatment plan.

Personalized Care From the Same Trusted Doctor

Modern dentistry is important, but technology is only one part of the patient experience. We also believe strongly in personal relationships and continuity of care.

At Kailua Town Dental, patients have the opportunity to see the same doctor at their visits. This gives us the chance to get to know our patients over time, understand their dental history, and follow their oral health as their needs change.

Continuity can be especially valuable when planning complex treatment. A doctor who is familiar with your dental history can consider previous procedures, current concerns, and long-term goals when discussing treatment options.

We also want patients to understand why a treatment is recommended. Dentistry can sometimes feel overwhelming, particularly when someone is dealing with pain, missing teeth, damaged teeth, or several dental concerns at once. We take the time to explain options and help patients make informed decisions about their care.

Our goal is to provide high-quality dentistry in a setting that still feels personal. Whether you are visiting us for a routine cleaning, a same-day crown, dental implants, or a more extensive reconstruction, we want you to feel like you are being treated as a person, not simply as the next appointment on the schedule.
